According to the Taiwan Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and the agreement reached with Massachusetts, any person who holds a valid Massachusetts driver's license may drive legally in Taiwan for up to one year from the second day after arrival. If you are lawfully permitted to stay in Taiwan for more than one year, you are eligible to apply to convert your Massachusetts driver's license into a Taiwan license at any Motor Vehicles Office in Taiwan by submitting the following:
A Taiwan Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) with a validity period of more than one year upon your entry into Taiwan;
Three one-inch black and white or color photos;
Your passport and a photocopy thereof;
Your Massachusetts driver's license and a photocopy thereof authenticated by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston;
An original driving record issued by MassDOT RMV no more than 60 days prior to your application for license conversion;
An application form with required health and physical check;
An application fee of NTD200.
