TECO-Boston held Taiwan Day in the Rhode Island House chamber on March 11. We appreciate the Rhode Island General Assembly for unanimously passing a resolution in support of closer friendship between Taiwan and Rhode Island as well as supporting Taiwan’s international participation.
Director-General Douglas Hsu led the prayer at the beginning of the session, and then gave remarks on current Taiwan-Rhode Island bilateral relations. Mr. Hsu also shared with the audience Taiwan’s quick response and effective measures in fighting COVID-19. He emphasized that it is unfair to exclude Taiwan from the WHO, as viruses respect neither politics nor borders. Taiwan is willing and able to make greater contributions to global public health.
The Rhode Island General Assembly hung the ROC (Taiwan) flag in the chamber during the entire session and invited Esther Yi-An Tien, a Taiwanese student from the New England Conservatory of Music, to sing the US and ROC (Taiwan) National Anthems for the start of the session. Special thanks to all the students from Brown University for the great Lion Dance performance.
TECO-Boston arranged a “Taste of Taiwan” reception, serving Taiwanese treats while sharing with our friends from Rhode Island Taiwan’s effort to join the WHO this year.
