On May 13, the Rhode Island State Senate and House of Representatives unanimously passed resolutions, reaffirming the friendship between Rhode Island and Taiwan, emphasizing Taiwan and the United States share democracy and liberty, supporting the signing of an Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement (ADTA) between the two sides, and congratulating President Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim on entering their second year in office, and Taiwan's vibrant democracy. The resolutions point out that U.S. policy toward Taiwan is guided by the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA), not United Nations Resolution 2758, and that Taiwan has the right to meaningfully participate in international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and World Health Assembly (WHA).
TECO-Boston Director-General Charles Liao was invited to the Senate and House of Representatives to witness the resolutions and gave remarks to thank friends in the legislature for their support, providing the Taiwanese people with even greater confidence to protect Taiwan's democracy and freedom. The R.O.C. flag was hung high in the House of Representatives, and Ms. Haofang Chuang led the singing of the R.O.C. and U.S. national anthems. This is the eighth consecutive year the Rhode Island State Legislature has passed resolutions supporting Taiwan. Thank you to all our friends for your support!
