On the evening of August 20, Director-General Charles Liao was invited to attend the U.S. Naval War College’s annual dinner held at Hammersmith Farm in Newport, Rhode Island. This location was frequently visited by former President John F. Kennedy and the First Lady during his presidency as their summer retreat, often referred to as the “Summer White House.”
The U.S. Naval War College is the cradle for educating and cultivating Navy leaders, supporting operational readiness, and strengthening global maritime partnerships. In his opening remarks, RDML A.B. Cruz III, Chairman of the Naval War College Foundation (NWCF) and a retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral, extended a special welcome to Director-General Liao for traveling such a long distance. He expressed hopes that the distinguished guests would have meaningful exchanges with Director-General Liao, Taiwan’s representative in the New England area, and that he looked forward to Mr. Liao sharing Taiwan’s achievements in promoting whole-of-society defense resilience during the war game exercise scheduled for the following day at the college.
