The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Guam held a National Day reception on the evening of October 10, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Guam, inviting guests from Guam’s political, business, academic, and overseas Taiwanese communities to celebrate the 114th birthday of the Republic of China (Taiwan). In his welcoming remarks, Director General Liu Chia-Ping stated that Taiwan and Guam enjoy a unique and special relationship. They are like brothers and sisters across the Pacific, connected by Austronesian roots and shared cultural heritage. As Taiwan stands at the center of the First Island Chain, and Guam serves as the hub of the Second Island Chain, together they are also fontline partners in the Pacific. In the face of growing authoritarian challenges to global democracy and freedom, Taiwan's democratic resilience, together with Guam's steadfast dedication to liberty and the rule of law, constitutes a vital pillar in safeguarding peace, stability, and prosperity across the Taiwan Strait, the Pacific region, and beyond.
Director General Liu also noted that Taiwan and the United States continue to advance comprehensive relations. The 119th U.S. Congress has introduced numerous bills and resolutions in support of Taiwan, reflecting the strong bipartisan commitment in the United States to enhancing Taiwan's security and countering coercive efforts by China to isolate Taiwan internationally. Moreover, 30 U.S. state legislatures have passed resolutions or made statements supporting Taiwan. They have expressed support for strengthening Taiwan U.S. economic cooperation, promoting Taiwan's meaningful participation in international organizations, and opposing any misinterpretation of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758.
Director General Liu expressed his sincere appreciation to Delegate James C. Moylan for his active engagement with Taiwan through both legislative initiatives and diplomatic interactions, as well as to Speaker Frank F. Blas Jr. and all members of the Guam Legislature for their longstanding and unwavering support. The Guam Legislature has consistently expressed strong backing for Taiwan through unanimous resolutions advocating for Taiwan's participation in international organizations.
