Director General Michael Tseng of TECO in Honolulu was invited to attend the funeral of the former President Imata Jabro Kabua of the Marshall Islands at Kawaiaha’o Church on September 28. H.E President Hilda Heine, First Gentleman Thomas Kijiner, former Government Minister Phillip Muller of the Marshall Islands, Governor David Ige of the state of Hawaii also attended the funeral.
In H.E President Heine’s remarks, she mentioned former President Kabua was proud of having decided to switch the diplomatic ties from the PRC to the Republic of China (Taiwan) during his presidency, based on the Marshall Islands and Taiwan share a common Austronesian Heritage and believe in the principle of democracy and the rule of the law. Former Government Minister Muller talked about how Marshallese people appreciate the close bilateral relationship with Taiwan as well.
The Funeral was solemn and respectful. The Consul General of the Marshall Islands expressed the gratitude to all the participants, especially to Director General Tseng.
