TECO in Honolulu Director General Richard Lin, on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of R.O.C. (Taiwan), donated 500,000 U.S. dollars to the Hawaii Community Foundation to assist with reconstruction following wildfires on Maui, Hawaii.
The Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke, on behalf of the Hawaii State Government, expressed her appreciation for Taiwan’s quick act and Taiwan’s support carries significance as this year marks the 30th anniversary of sister state relations. Mr. Micah Kane, CEO & President of Hawaii Community Foundation said Taiwan’s good deed reflects its amazing culture.
State Senator Chris Lee and State Representative Adrian Tam, on behalf of the State Senate and House of Representatives respectively, thanked Taiwan for its timely humanitarian aid to those suffered from wildfires on Maui.
While State Representatives Scott Nishimoto and Scot Matayoshi emphasized Taiwan’s deed is an example of “a friend in need is a friend indeed” calling Taiwan a true friend to Hawaii and the United States, State Senator Stanley Chang underlined the excellent capacity Taiwan has for natural disaster response.
From donation to international collaborations in fighting climate change and various challenges for the globe, the Republic of China(Taiwan) government will keep demonstrating the spirit of “Taiwan Can Help, and Taiwan is helping!”

A check presentation for a donation of $500,000 was made by Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Honolulu Director General Richard Lin to Hawaii Community Foundation CEO & President Micah Kane, on August 22, 2023, to aid the Maui Strong Fund with its recovery effort in the aftermath of Maui wildfires. Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke and representatives from Governor Josh Green’s office, State Senate, State House and Taiwanese American community leaders are there to witness this warmly ceremony.
