The Chinese-American Elected Officials (CEO) recently held its installation ceremony. Administered by U.S. Representative Judy Chu (D-CA), Yorba Linda Mayor Pro Tem Peggy Huang was officially sworn in as the new President of CEO. TECO-LA Director General Jason Ma and Mrs. Anne Yang were honored to attend the event and offer their heartfelt congratulations to the incoming team.
Many might not realize that President Huang’s life story is the most inspiring and resilient microcosm of the ??Taiwanese immigrant journey in the United States.
Immigrating from Taiwan at age seven without speaking a word of English, she overcame language barriers by studying hard at the library every day. This unwavering determination propelled her to become a California prosecutor defending abused children, and later, to shatter the glass ceiling in Orange County politics as Yorba Linda's first Taiwanese American female mayor. Furthermore, as a courageous cancer survivor and marathon runner, her life story is defined by perseverance and a refusal to give up.
On the international front, President Huang has never forgotten her roots in ??Taiwan. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she actively served as a crucial bridge, helping to share the public health "Taiwan Model" with California city leaders. Her efforts allowed Taiwan's pandemic-fighting experience to take root in California, making a vital contribution to saving lives.
CEO is one of the most vital networks uniting Asian American elected officials across the Greater Los Angeles area. President Huang and her team taking on this immense responsibility is not only a profound recognition of her exceptional capabilities but also sends a powerful message: Taiwanese immigrants in the U.S. have long become a core force in stepping into public service, shaping public policy, and championing the values of a diverse society.
TECO-LA looks forward to more exciting collaborations with CEO in the future, working together to ensure that the values and energy of the Taiwanese community continue to shine, resonate, and make lasting contributions within mainstream American politic
