Los Angeles County is the most populous county in the United States, and its economic output surpasses that of most nations globally. Leading and advancing the civic affairs of such a massive and diverse metropolitan area requires exceptional wisdom, coordination, and bold leadership.
Recently, Director General Jason Ma had the privilege of meeting with Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger. The 5th District, which Supervisor Barger represents (including the San Gabriel Valley), is home to one of the most vibrant and concentrated populations of Taiwanese Americans and Taiwanese-owned businesses in Southern California.
From the moment they met, Supervisor Barger warmly reaffirmed her steadfast support for Taiwan??. During their broad-ranging exchange, DG Ma expressed his deep gratitude for her unwavering commitment to the Taiwanese American community. Supervisor Barger, in turn, shared her profound respect for the community, noting how much she values the principles of hard work, self-reliance, and the emphasis on education that many Taiwanese families uphold—values she noted deeply mirror her own upbringing.
DG Ma highlighted that it is precisely this shared commitment to hard work and self-reliance that makes Taiwanese immigrants such a stabilizing force in driving economic prosperity, maintaining community safety, and supporting public security across Greater Los Angeles. The strongest foundation of the Taiwan-U.S. partnership is built step by step, grounded in the hard work and local contributions of every Taiwanese compatriot.
We sincerely thank Supervisor Barger for her genuine friendship and gracious support. TECO-LA looks forward to working closely with the County government to ensure the vitality of the Taiwanese community continues to be a driving force for the region's progress, and to contribute a powerful momentum to the ever-growing Taiwan-U.S. relationship.
