"When Ming Chuan University decided to move their U.S. office from the Midwest to Southern California, I am sure that everybody in this room will join me and say this: Great decision."
Director General Jason Ma recently attended the grand opening of the Ming Chuan University (MCU) U.S. Office at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). This lighthearted opening remark instantly drew knowing laughter and enthusiastic applause from the proud Southern California crowd.
As Taiwan's representative mission, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing years of mutual trust translate into concrete partnerships. This milestone is not just a celebration for two universities; it is a major step forward in Taiwan-U.S. educational cooperation. CSULB is a flagship campus of the California State University (CSU) system, and the City of Long Beach shares a 20-year Sister City relationship with Taoyuan, home to MCU’s largest campus. Building on that profound foundation and the successful launch of Taiwan’s Huayu BEST program at CSULB last year, MCU has now made history as the very first overseas university to establish a physical office within the massive CSU system.
Looking ahead, the two universities will launch dual master’s degree programs, allowing students to earn degrees from both institutions upon completion. During his remarks, DG Ma humorously asked, "Is there an age limit for this dual-degree program launching in 2027? Because I turn 51 this year..." CSULB enthusiastically responded, "There's no age limit at all, you're more than welcome!"
From language learning to dual-degree programs, we extend our deepest appreciation to the leadership teams of both universities for their vision in building an irreplaceable cross-cultural bridge for Taiwanese and American students. TECO-LA will continue to be the strongest supporter of this endeavor, looking forward to the many exciting new chapters in Taiwan-U.S. higher education cooperation!
