The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Los Angeles and the Chapman University will jointly present Dr. John Franklin Copper to speak on “US-China-Taiwan Relations: Problems and Prospects” at the Chapman University, World Affairs Council of Orange County and the University of San Diego on October 24 to October 25, 2012.
Dr. Copper will assess the significance of the rise of China as an economic and military power, arguably the most important factor influencing international politics today. What is America’s response to the new big power? The focus of the analysis is how it affects Taiwan. Taiwan is in the vortex of US-China relations. He will put America’s strategy and what the Asia pivot means into the context of U.S. foreign policy and the coming U.S. election.
He is a Stanley J. Buckman Distinguished Professor of International Studies at Rhode College in Memphis, Tennessee. He is the author of more than 25 books on Asian and international affairs, resides on the Board of Directors of the American Association for Chinese Studies, and is a member of the editorial board of the journal Asian Affairs.
