On September 23, Director General Chalres Chou, accompanied by Vice Consul Sabrina Huang, paid a courtesy visit to Jay Arnold, the newly appointed Deputy Director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM). They exchanged views on further strengthening disaster preparedness and response ties between Taiwan and Florida, as well as exploring a potential Taiwan–Florida disaster management cooperation agreement.
Director General Chou also shared with Deputy Director Arnold the outcomes and achievements of the disaster management cooperation initiatives that emerged from the World Alliance for Disaster Management (WADM) Conference, which was held in Taiwan for the first time. He expressed hope that Florida could participate in the future as an observer, helping connect disaster preparedness expertise and experience from around the world—from training and exercises to response support and information sharing—and working together to strengthen disaster resilience at both the regional and global levels.
Disasters know no borders, and disaster preparedness should know no borders either.
