Taipei, Feb. 23 (CNA) Foreign investment in Taiwan totaled US$532.8 million in January, representing an annual increase of 60.71 percent, the Investment Commission under the Ministry of Economic Affairs said Tuesday.
The commission said it had approved a total of 283 investment projects presented by foreign and overseas Chinese investors in the last month, up 2.17 percent year-on-year in terms of volume.
During the same period, the commission approved 21 investment projects presented by investors from mainland China worth a total of US$6.4 million and representing an annual increase of 37.86 percent, it added.
Meanwhile, the commission said that it gave a green light to 46 investment projects presented by domestic enterprises to be conducted abroad during the same period, with a total value of US$216.08 million, representing an increase of 12.2 percent and a negative growth of 55.1 percent year-on-year, respectively.
With respect to Taiwanese investment in China, the commission said it approved a total of 20 investment projects presented by local enterprises to be conducted on the other side of the Taiwan Strait in January, with a total value of US$328 million, down 35.49 percent and 55.04 percent year-on-year, respectively.
