Taipei, March 16 (CNA) A mobile app that acts as a navigation tool for a smart Taipei Main Station, locating and directing users to points of interest, is to be launched at the end of March for Android and mid-April for iOS, Taipei City Department of Transport (DOT) announced on Friday.
Taipei City government and Askey Computer Corp., a subsidiary of Taiwan's Asustek Computer Inc., are working to build a smart Taipei Main Station.
The app will feature a pedestrian guide, indoor positioning and navigation, information on sightseeing transportation, building safety and parking, according to the DOT,
The department noted that the pedestrian guide will provide traffic information, floor navigation, food and point of interest inquiries and public service announcements.
Taipei Deputy Mayor Lin Chin-rong (林欽榮) said Friday at a presentation for the app that Taipei Main Station handles an average of 540,000 people per day, making it the busiest station in the country.
Taipei DOT Commissioner Chen Shyue-tair (陳學台) said in the past, when the public thought of Taipei Main Station their first thought was always Taiwan Railways Administration's Taipei Station. However, following the completion of Taipei MRT, Taiwan High Speed Rail, Airport MRT and Taipei Bus Station, facilities at Taipei Main Station increasingly include underground malls and shops.
In order to improve traffic flow at the station, while also integrating urban landscape and disaster prevention measures, the objective is to transform Taipei main station into a smart station, Chen added.
