Director General Chou, accompanied by Deputy Director Frank You, was invited to the reception held by “Make Us Visible Florida” on July 29th, and joined Asian American communities in Florida to celebrate the passage of legislation requiring AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) history in Florida’s K-12 curriculum.
During the reception, Director General met with State Representatives Susan Plasencia and Fabián Basabe, Deputy Consul-General Ms. Fumiyo Tsuda of the Consulate-General of Japan in Miami, and Asian American organizations including the “Asian American Advisory Board”.
The bill making AAPI history a mandatory part of Florida’s public education system had been signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis on May 9th, making Florida one of the states, along with Illinois, Connecticut, New Jersey and Rhode Island, requiring that AAPI history be included in K-12 curriculum.
