Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco held National Day Reception on October 7th, 2019

The 108th National Day Reception was held at Crown Plaza, Forster City in the evening of October 7th. The reception features wonderful cultural performances and diverse vendors serving delicious Taiwanese cuisine. More than a thousand guests attended the event, including local politicians, members of Taiwanese communities as well as overseas compatriots, to jointly celebrate the National Day of Republic of China (Taiwan).
In his remark on the reception, Director General Joseph Ma pointed out that although Taiwan has a relatively small population of 23 million, it is ranked as the world’s 21st largest economy and 19th largest trade country. In terms of global competitiveness, Taiwan also ranked number 13 by the World Economic Forum’s 2018 report. The report also describes Taiwan as a “super innovator” alongside Germany, Switzerland, and the U.S. Director General Ma also underscored U.S. Vice President Mike Pence’s speech of last October, “Taiwan’s embrace of democracy shows a better path for all Chinese people” Today, Taiwan-US relation is not only based on our long-term close friendship, but also on our shared value of freedom, democracy, rule of laws and good governance. Taiwan has both ability and willingness to work with other like-minded countries in the world in pursuit of peace, prosperity and democracy.
