Mr. Don J. Wang, Chairman of Metro Bank in Houston, established the “Don J. Wang Endowed Fellowship” in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, Utah State University (USU), in partnership with the university’s Foundation in March 2014. He also contributed the initial gift of US$200,000 to the Fellowship fund. By this Fellowship, Mr. Wang, a successful USU alumnus from Taiwan, intended to benefit current USU Taiwanese graduate students, as well as to feed back to his alma mater, where he had earned a master’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Sciences.
The fellowship aims to financially support Taiwanese graduate students who are studying in the two programs of Applied Economics or Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Sciences. If none of candidates from those programs succeeds in application, other Taiwanese students enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences will then be considered eligible for application. To promote this fellowship, the TECO Education Division in San Francisco will disseminate this information through USU’s Taiwanese Student Association and encourage students to apply.
In addition to sponsoring Taiwanese students, Mr. Wang also hoped that this endowed fellowship might help strengthen the bilateral educational cooperation between USU and one of Taiwan’s universities. At his request, the TECO Education Division in San Francisco has helped recommend and facilitate the opportunity of establishing sisterhood between USU and Taiwan’s National Chung-Hsing University, where Mr. Wang graduated with his bachelor degree in Agricultural Engineering. Both universities are now interested to have further direct talks about the proposed sisterhood and potential cooperative programs, including jointly selecting outstanding NCHU's students to undertake master's or doctoral degrees in USU with sponsorship from the Don J. Wang Fellowship. The Don J. Wang Endowed Fellowship Supports Taiwanese Graduate Students in Utah State University.
