During the visit, he held talks with Taiwanese businesspeople in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley. In his remarks, Minister Kung explained the recent tariff agreement reached between Taiwan and the US, which included a reciprocal reduction of US tariffs on Taiwan to 15%. He also noted that Taiwan received relatively complete and most favorable treatment on potential Section 232 tariffs imposed by the US, and that both sides would expand supply chain investment cooperation and deepen their AI strategic partnership, marking a historic moment.
Director General David Wu stated in his address that the office serves as an important bridge between the government and Taiwanese businesses, providing them with local services. The Taiwanese businesspeople also explained their investment and operational plans in the US and offered suggestions for the government's strategy of "Based in Taiwan, Expanding Globally, and Marketing Worldwide." The exchange was lively and fruitful.
During his trip, Minister Gong also visited the headquarters of Silicon Valley technology company Cadence, met with space startup unicorn Apex, and witnessed the signing of a new round of MOUs for the TREE startup program between ITRI and Stanford University’s Robotics Center and College of Engineering, respectively, to deepen Taiwan-US scientific research innovation, industrial technology exchange and cooperation.
