Fr. Giuseppe Didone: “Thanks Taiwan, my Second Homeland!”
The fundraising and medical supplies call, launched by Camillian missionary Giuseppe Didone to help his religious order and hospitals in Italy, received a remarkable response which exceeded all expectations.
After only six days, donations from some 20,000 people across Taiwan amounted to over 3 million Euro, prompting Fr. Didone to conclude the fundraising campaign well in advance. As love transcends borders, young adults, senior citizens, and common citizens, but also businesses and different religious groups such as the Buddhist Longshan Temple, which provided a monetary contribution as well as surgical face masks as an example of interfaith cooperation, all contributed to the charitable efforts.
Taiwanes wished to show their gratitude to the Catholic missionaries for their outstanding work carried out in Taiwan. In an open letter, the missionary deeply thanked the Taiwan people who have reached out to their brothers and sisters in Italy to enfold them in a symbolic embrace of solidarity. With their overwhelming generosity, the Taiwan people emphasized their human sides of love, sharing and compassion.
