On the evening of April 16, Ambassador and Madam Ho, accompanied by Counselor David Li and Secretary Wei Wang, attended the 31st Annual Rector’s Dinner of the Pontifical North American College. The event brought together over 400 distinguished guests, including Cardinals, Archbishops, Holy See officials, and members of the Roman political and academic Catholic communities.
The Embassy was honored to be seated with the Archpriests of two of Rome’s Major Papal Basilicas: Card. James Michael Harvey of the Basilica di San Paolo fuori le Mura and Card. Rolandas Makrickas of the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore.
Our distinguished table companions also included Arch. Salvatore Pennacchio, President of the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, Arch. Fortunatus Nwachukwu, Secretary of the Dicastery for Evangelization, Msgr. Indunil J. Kodithuwakku K., Secretary of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, Ambassador Pavel Svoboda of the Czech Republic to the Holy See, Dr. María Lía Zervino, Member of the Dicastery for Bishops.
Prior to the dinner, while members of the Embassy were conversing with fellow attendees, the Rector of the College, Msgr. Thomas W. Powers, expressed his personal gratitude to Ambassador Ho for Taiwan’s steadfast support of the Catholic Church and the sincere friendship shown to the College. Ambassador and Madam Ho also exchanged warm greetings with several prominent leaders, including Card. Francis Arinze, Card. Marc Ouellet, Card. Raymond Leo Burke, Card. Gerhard Ludwig Müller, Card. Timothy Dolan, and Sr. Raffaella Petrini, Secretary General of the Governorate of Vatican City State.
