On May 27, Ambassador Anthony C.Y. Ho, accompanied by Counselor David Li and Secretary Carrie Kuo, attended the computer donation ceremony at the General House of the Congregatio Immaculati Cordis Mariae (C.I.C.M.) in Rome. Fr. Charles Phukuta, Superior General of the congregation, accepted the donation on behalf of the recipients, while members of the congregation’s council were present.
In his remarks, Fr. Phukuta expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government of Taiwan and Ambassador Ho for their generous support of education for the younger generation in the D.R.C. He noted that Taiwan’s technological strengths provide local youth in D.R.C. with access to technology education opportunities equal to those available in other parts of the world, thereby helping to bridge the digital divide. Through this collaborative project, 1,200 children from underprivileged families in Kinshasa and Boma will be able to receive the technological education required in modern society. He also highlighted that the initiative demonstrates Taiwan’s important role as a partner of the Catholic Church in international humanitarian assistance and cooperation. Fr. Phukuta further emphasized that the humanitarian collaboration between Taiwan and the congregation in the D.R.C. profoundly embodies the spirit of Jesus in spreading the Gospel among local communities, and he prayed for God’s blessings upon the people of Taiwan.
Ambassador Ho stated in his remarks that he was honored to represent the Government of Taiwan in partnering with the C.I.C.M. to donate computers to the congregation’s schools in the D.R.C. He noted that the congregation has cultivated deep ties with Taiwan over many years, and through its selfless dedication, both sides have developed bonds like a family. As May coincides with the “Month of Mary,” a season of gratitude and sharing, Taiwan expresses its devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary through concrete acts of love and generosity. Taiwan is a force for good in the world. We will continue to deepen Taiwan’s partnership with the Holy See and the Catholic Church, joining hands to create more opportunities for humanitarian service and cooperation around the world, bringing greater opportunities to brothers and sisters in need, and allowing hope to be passed down from generation to generation under God’s blessings.
