Q1:How do I find Chinese Language center in Taiwan?
Answer: There are Chinese language centers in most of the universities, and among them, Shida is the most popular for Vincentian students. http://www.mtc.ntnu.edu.tw/
Q2: If I used to study in other countries, how do I get my diploma and transcript authenticated?
Answer: You need to apply document authentication to Taiwan's diplomatic mission which covers your school’s location, for example Taiwan’s Trade Mission in Bogota Colombia covers Venezuela, Cuba and Colombia’s consular affairs including document authentication. The Taiwan Embassy in SVG’s consular service only covers SVG, Trinidad, Grenada, Surinam and Guyana.
Q3: Where to find departments and universities information?
Answer: There are more than a hundred universities in Taiwan. Please visit the following website for more information, https://www.studyintaiwan.org/apply
Q4: If I applied for the scholarship program last year and would like to retry this year, should I submit all documents and the application form again?
Answer: Yes. The Embassy did not keep your previous application documents. Please send all required papers again. Before you come to the Embassy, please make an appointment in advance via 456-2431.
Q5: Should I have my diploma and transcript authenticated before submitting the application?
Answer: Yes. Please come to the Embassy to have your documents authenticated before applying for a university, unless the university you choose declares that it does not need the authentication.
Before you submit the application for scholarships to the Embassy,
(1) you need an entry admission from a university,
(2) for Taiwan Scholarship applicant, an admission from a Chinese language center is also needed.
Q6: What are the differences between MOFA Taiwan Scholarship and Taiwan ICDF Scholarship?
Answer:
Usually recipients of Taiwan Scholarship program are required to study the Chinese language in their first year in Taiwan before entering BA, MA or PHD programs, therefore there are all kinds of programs and departments for them to choose.
Recipient of Taiwan scholarship will receive monthly stipends of around 800 USD/month while enrolled in Chinese language study; and 1000USD/month while enrolled in BA, MA or PHD programs, to cover their tuition, accommodation, meal and living expense.
If one is admitted to an all-English program along with the Taiwan scholarship, he/she is not required to spend a year on Chinese language study.
ICDF provides 37 all English program including 3 PHD, 25 Master degree and 9 undergraduate programs. Choose one program, login ICDF website to complete the online application form. Print out the application form and send it to this Embassy along with your passport copy, academic certificate, transcript, two recommendation letters to start the application process.
ICDF provide Round trip economy class flight ticket to Taiwan, accommodation, tuition, insurance and textbook fee. In addition, ICDF also provide 400USD to BA, 500 USD to MA and 600 USD to PHD students per month to cover their living expense.
The fund for scholarship will be transferred to each individuals through the schools, therefore for scholarship related issues, please contact your school in Taiwan after arriving Taiwan.
Q7: How to find accommodations in Taiwan?
Answer: Most universities offer dormitory with reasonable rent price. Alternatively, you may rent a room outside campus. For more information, please contact Vincentian student Association in Taiwan(svgintw@gmail.com/Preident: Oliseh Parris). There are currently around 110-120 Vincentian students in Taiwan.
Q8: What if I need emergency help in Taiwan?
Answer: For all kinds of emergencies, please contact the school, local Police(110), or the Embassy of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in Taiwan.

Q9: How do I travel to Taiwan?
Answer: Vincentian students do need to make a transit stop in the USA before flying to Taiwan. Once an individual become the Scholarship recipient, Taiwan Embassy will issue a Note to the US Embassy in Barbados accordingly, potential students can then apply for the US visa before travelling to Taiwan. Vincentian student usually fly to Taiwan via Miami, LA or New York.
Q10: If I am not qualified for the scholarship, could I still study in Taiwan?
Answer: Yes, foreign students are always welcome to study in Taiwan even without a scholarship. Taiwan’s living expense is almost at the same level of SVG. University tuition fee is relatively lower than in western countries. It is estimated to be around 700-850USD per semester for national universities and 1200-2000USD for private universities. Rent of the dormitory is usually around 250-350USD per semester. These estimates do vary in different schools and cities. In addition, many Taiwan’s universities offer their own scholarships to international students, please contact schools directly for more information.
Q11: Could I study Medicine in Taiwan?
Answer: Yes. I-Shou University offers 4 years post-graduate Medicine program without internship. Afterwards, students need to return to SVG and apply internship through the Ministry of Health. Other medical schools may also accept foreign students on a case by case basis.
Q12:During the application process, sometimes schools in Taiwan may ask for application fee, is there a way to waive the fee?
Answer: Each school has their own policy regarding application fee, which is beyond reach of this embassy. If you encounter difficulties in paying application fee, please discuss with the school directly or choose to apply other schools.
