Amb. Peter Sha-Li Lan attended the Grant Awards Ceremony of the third batch of management training courses under the Women’s Empowerment Project (WEP) at the Kingstown Baptist Church on 3rd February, 2023. The ceremony was co-hosted by the Technical Mission of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Centre for Enterprise Development (CED) of the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning, and Information Technology. Ms. Affia Clarke, Acting General Manager, Ms. Keisha Phillips, Training & Education Coordinator/PR/Communications Officer of CED, staff from the Embassy and Technical Mission of Taiwan as well as participants to the training courses and the media also attended the ceremony.
In his remarks, Amb. Lan congratulated the participants for completing the training courses and being granted Angel Fund (EC$9,300), COVID-19 Relief Fund (EC$8,000) and Special Grant (EC$6,000). He stressed that the spirit of WEP was to empower women rather than merely provide grants, and urged the participants to grow their businesses with what they had learned from the training courses. He said Taiwanese knew very well the importance of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to national economies, and that’s why WEP was proposed to share Taiwan’s experiences to SVG after the impacts of COVID-19 pandemic, the volcanic eruption of La Soufrière and the global inflation caused by the Ukraine conflict. He believed after training, the participants had become more capable and confident in facing future challenges, and wished them all the best. (E)
