The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) held the Presentation of 2024 MOFA Taiwan Scholarship and TaiwanICDF Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony on Tuesday, 13th August 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Consumer Affairs.
H.E. Fiona Hui-Chun Fan, joined by Dr. the Hon. Ralph E. Gonsalves, the Prime Minister, Hon. Frederick Stephenson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Consumer Affairs, Hon. Curtis King, Minister of Education and Reconciliation, congratulated the 2024 Scholarship recipients and present the certificates to twenty-two young Vincentians. The ceremony also heard addresses from Ambassador Fan, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, Minister Frederick Stephenson and Minister Curtis King.
In her remark, Ambassador Fan announced that this year, 22 Vincentian students are awarded with Taiwan Scholarships offered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) ; and as of this year, 291 Vincentian youths have been awarded the scholarship to pursue higher education in Taiwan since the inception of the Taiwan Scholarships Programme in 2004s. The Scholarship Program has further bound the existing relations between the two countries and boosted the friendship to the extent beyond the government-to-government relations.
Ambassador Fan also emphasized that, in assistance to the Vincentian Government's relief action plan for Hurricane Beryl, Taiwan has committed to sending 100 tons of rice, two containers of clothing and schooling supplies for women and children, and $200k in monetary relief. We hope that this assistance can aid in facilitating a quicker recovery economically and socially.
At the ceremony there were another 15 TOCFL Certificates presented. The goal of the TOCFL test is to provide an outlook of Chinese starter’s abilities on listening and reading, as well as encourage them to set learning objectives in their future plans after taking the test. This year, fifteen students took the exam, and all of them passed.
The highlight of the ceremony is the performance of the famous singing “St. Vincent, I love you” in mandarin version. The singing was performed by scholarship recipient Jolesia Pope along with a passionate nine-year-old girl, Faith Grant. (E)
