H.E. Fiona Huei-Chun Fan, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines hosted a special film screening of “A Chip Odyssey” on July 16th, 2026. Hon. Phillip Jackson, Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Innovation, Digital Transformation and Information, Hon. Lavern King, Senator and Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, and Hon. Chieftain Neptune, Senator and Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister participated in the event.
In the remark, Ambassador Fan introduced how “A Chip Odyssey” documented the journey of Taiwan from its humble beginnings to becoming a world leader in technological innovation. The monumental achievement is forged by decades of dedicated development in technological and manufacturing capabilities, unique business models and government-led policies. Through “Integrated Diplomacy,” Taiwan is promoting “Trusted Technology Taiwan” which combines the industry ecosystem and talents to forge a safe and reliable global democratic supply chain with international partners.
Here in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Taiwan has been working with the Government in applying technology to national development. From safeguarding public safety through smart surveillance system to smart agriculture and smart healthcare, the two countries have been working together to advance national development and resilience. Youth development has also been a cornerstone of bilateral partnership, as over the past two decades there have been 321 recipients of Taiwan Scholarships and the number of recipients has reached a record high this year, demonstrating the deepening bond and relationship between the people of Taiwan and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
In Minister Jackson’s remarks, he shared his observation of Taiwan’s geopolitical significance in the ever-changing international geopolitical landscape, and how Taiwan as an island state has found its niche for development leading to success is a story worth reflecting on for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. As there were many students at the film screening, Minister Jackson encouraged Vincentian youth advancing their studies abroad to return home upon completion to contribute their learning and skills to the development of their country. The year 2026 marks the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relation between Taiwan and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, it is believed that the two countries will continue to strengthen the ties on the firm foundation of shared values and mutual trust.
The event was hosted in collaboration with the National Centre of Technological Innovation (NCTI), with participation from the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD), National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC), students from STEM and youth empowerment summer camps, recipients of the 2026 Taiwan Scholarships and media. The interactive session after the film also received warm welcome from the youth participants. The film screening event has fostered understanding of Taiwan’s crucial role in the global advanced technological supply chain among relative government agencies, students and the general public.
