The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) hosted a luncheon at the Chancellery of the Embassy on 20 May 2016 to celebrate the inauguration of the 14th President and Vice President of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
The luncheon was well attended and historic in a sense that the Governor General was escorted by three incumbent and past Prime Ministers of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Further, three leaders of the political parties of the country were also present.
Ambassador Baushuan Ger briefed to the audience the feature policies of President Tsai Ing-wen, including transforming of economic structures, strengthening the social safety net, and addressing the issues of social fairness and justice. President Tsai’s cross-Strait policy and her foreign policy were also presented.
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Arnhim Eustace, in their remarks, both emphasized their strong support on the maintenance of friendship between St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the Republic of China (Taiwan). The vibrant cooperation has been benefitting both countries in a positive direction.
The attendees of the luncheon include H.E. Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne, Hon. Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, Hon. Arnhim Eustace, Leader of the Opposition, former Prime Minister Sir James Mitchell, former National Security Advisor Sir Vincent Beache, Speaker Jomo Thomas, Deputy Governor General Susan Dougan, Mrs. Anesia Baptiste, President of the Democratic Republic Party, as well as members of the cabinet, other members of the parliament, senior government officials and the media.
This year the two countries celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations.
