The Government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan), partnered with other countries, participated in the Argyle International Airport (AIA) Project and wish to extend the heartfelt congratulations on the opening of this game-changing airport.
On February 13, 2017, Ambassador Baushuan Ger, in his capacity as the personal representative of Dr. Tsai Ing-wen, President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), delivered a speech at the flag-raising ceremony and military parade on the occasion of the opening of the AIA, congratulating the opening of the airport and wishing a successful operation of the airport will lead to further prosperity in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. On February 14, Ambassador Ger was invited as a special guest at the opening of the AIA.
The Republic of China (Taiwan) assisted the AIA and contributed to the construction of the landmark terminal building, which is the perfect exemplification of the strong partnership between Taiwan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Taiwanese companies, namely OECC, CECI, Matsui Tiger Taiwan, Far East and Thrive Faith, were involved in the design, construction and installation of the terminal. The design invokes the images of the vast blue sea surrounding SVG and a seagull spreading its wings.
The construction of the terminal started in 2011 and was completed in December 2013, with join efforts between Taiwanese Engineers and Vincentian professionals, which comprised of technicians, plumbers, mechanics, steel workers, masons, carpenters, painters, warehouse assistants, drivers, etc.
During the 9-month peak season of the construction, over 300 Vincentians each day were employed to work on the construction site. In the off-season, local workforce on the project maintained about 50 Vincentian on a daily base.
Since 1981, Taiwan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines have collaborated in the various fields such as infrastructure, agriculture, information technology, education and human resources development. In the area of infrastructure, the AIA Terminal adds to the long list of projects such as the Union Island Airport, Learning Resource Centers, National Library, National Tennis Court, Fruit Market, and the Rabacca Bridge, etc. (E)
