The Mission and Geneva’s Taipei Cultural and Economic Delegation jointly held the 110th National Day reception at the InterContinental Hotel on October 4, 2021. The scene was warm and lively with more than 150 guests, including Ambassadors and high-level officials in WTO and in Geneva.
Ambassador Chang-fa Lo gave his remarks showing that Switzerland and Taiwan shared many values despite being geographically distant. The Ambassador expressed thanks for the international support that Taiwan receives in standing firm to face and resolve difficulties such as COVID-19 and political pressure from a neighboring country. On WTO matters, Ambassador Lo promised to work with other missions, the WTO Director General Dr. Ngozi Iweala and the Secretariat, to jointly show the world following MC12 that the WTO is back and makes immense contributions.
Director-General Su of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office thanked countries for donating vaccines to help Taiwan fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. DG Su shared with guests regarding Taiwan's achievements and the value of democracy and freedom. The DG also expressed gratitude towards the motion of urging deeper relations with Taiwan passed by the Swiss National Council.
Due to the restrictions of the pandemic this year, the reception was reduced in scale to high-level delegates of Missions in Geneva, specific WTO officials, and local politicians. Despite the constraints, the Mission highlighted National Day and brought Taiwan excellence and joy to the celebration. Taiwanese bubble tea flavors and the award-winning Kavalan whiskies were served on the spot.
