INTERKULTUR, the world’s leading initiator and organiser of international choral competitions, announced that the City of Tshwane will be the official host for the world's biggest choir competition in 2018, making it the first time that the event will take place on the African continent.
In almost 30 years since the organisation was established, more than 9 100 choirs and roughly 394 000 singers from 103 nations have taken part in the World Choir Games and Interkultur regional choir competitions.
Since 1988 nearly 200 competitions and festivals have been held, with the famous World Choir Games held every two years on different continents in cities such as Linz, Austria, then travelled to Busan (Republic of Korea), Bremen (Germany, Xiamen (China), Graz (Austria), Shaoxing (China), Cincinnati (USA) and Sochi (Russia).
South Africa will be the first African country to receive hundreds of choirs from across the globe which will participate in the competition from the 4th to the 14th of July at various venues around Tshwane.
Under the choral Olympic movement motto of "Participation in the Highest Honour", the Taipei Liaison Office (TLO) in the Republic of South Africa is proud to announce that two teams from Taiwan will join the 2018 World Choir Games:
