On March 18, Director General Vincent Liu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta, TECO officers, and more than 20 members of the ROC Veterans Association in Atlanta, attended the Macon International Cherry Blossom Festival parade.
At 10:30 am, DG Liu was accompanied by TECO officers Tony Tai and Liz Wang attended the Cherry Blossom Worship Service at the Riverside United Methodist Church. During the ceremony, DG Liu, Consul General of Japan Takashi Shinozuka, and Carolyn Crayton, founder of the Macon Cherry Blossom Festival, were introduced to the audience by the Reverend.
Later that day, DG Liu attended the ceremonial Lantern Lighting at Third Street Park. It was hosted by Dr. Viva Lawton Fowler, President of Wesleyan College. The Wesleyan chorus sang the National Anthems of the ROC (Taiwan), Japan, France, Ireland, Great Britain, Jamaica, and the US. All countries’ national flags were presented. DG Liu and Consul General Shinozuka lit the lantern, officially kicking off The Macon Cherry Blossom Festival.
Riding on the back of a classic Cadillac convertible, DG Liu led a Taiwanese Parade Team. The Parade Team was followed by a Lion Dance show and a float emphasizing Taiwan's culture and the Third Prince dance during the parade, creating an attractive focal point.
