In order to discuss the latest developments, such as the 45th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act, the inauguration of the new government, and China’s military exercises around Taiwan, as well as their impact on the trilateral relations between Taiwan, the United States, and China and the future direction of the world, TECOATL and the University of South Carolina Walker Institute of International and Area Studies held a conference on May 29 at the school conference center. The event featured five heavyweight speakers, including Michael Beckley, the author of "Danger Zone"; Jacques deLisle, a senior scholar of the German Marshall Fund; Todd McCaffrey, Director of the South Carolina Department of Veterans Affairs (retired Army Major General of the U.S. Pacific Military Region); Philip Chritton, a visiting scholar at the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina; and Professor Xie, a professor of international politics at the university. These speakers provided the latest insights and suggestions.
Nearly 200 people participated onsite and via video, including South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Harry Lightsey, Deputy Secretary of State Melissa Dunlap, Guatemala Consul General Jorge Archila, constituency directors of several federal senators and representatives, and other mainstream figures engaged in a lively exchange of views.
