The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York is pleased to announce the Taiwan Ghost Month Series, a collaboration between Taipei Cultural Center in New York and the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) in celebration of a new era of Taiwanese horror films.
The series will showcase seven genre films from recent years, including Detention, Get the Hell Out, The Heirloom, Mon Mon Mon Monsters, The Rope Curse, Silk, and The Tag-Along—a constellation of domestic box-office hits that have been critically praised for incorporating Taiwanese folklore, Chinese mythology, contemporary social issues, and historical tragedies into their succinctly unnerving narratives.
Running from August 23 through September 1, 2021, the series coincides with the seventh lunar month, traditionally known as the “Ghost Month,” which is when the mid-summer Ghost Festival is held. The films will be available virtually throughout the U.S.
